Tref-Y-Clawdd RFC 12 Crickhowell RFC 22

CRICKHOWELL RFC travelled up to play Tref-y-Clawdd last Saturday and it was the visitors who got on the scoreboard first.

A strong run from winger Tony Perry, who took play into the home side’s 22 and it was left to prop Jim Aylett to cross the line for an unconverted try.

Not long afterwards, it was the turn of John James who shrugged off tacklers to power his way to the whitewash for another unconverted try. Harry Purvis was next on the scoresheet as he finished off some good team work when he received the ball and dodged and outpaced his opponents to touch down. This try was again unconverted leaving Crickhowell 15 points ahead at the half-time whistle.

At the resumption of play, it was once again the industrious John James who found his way through to increase the scoreline with a try converted by Leon Rees.

Later, Crickhowell were reduced to fourteen men for coming in from the side and Tref-y-Clawdd took full advantage with a well-worked try which was converted.

The home team struck again not long afterwards with another try, this time unconverted. A back-to-full-strength Crickhowell side then managed to snuff out any further attempts at scoring but were themselves prevented from increasing their lead by a spirited Tref-y-Clawdd.

The bonus point saw Crickhowell rise to the top of League 3 East D. This Saturday Crickhowell will play host to Bettws RFC at Parc Broyd.
