A GROUP of former players, members and supporters of Brecon RFC will be cycling from Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

On Saturday the July 16 the group will leave Parc Eirias and after a stop off over night in Llandrindod Wells arrive at The Principality Stadium on the Sunday.

The group of riders from Brecon made up of Alan Taylor, Martin Keylock, Ian Griffiths, Jonathan Morris, Paul Wesley, Colin Evans, Julian Edwards, Darren Jones, Simon Wood, Brian Pritchard, Sophie Pritchard, Michael Harris, Phil Williams and Steve Close are seeking to raise £7,500 for the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust (WRCT), a charity that supports players who have been severely injured playing rugby.

The ride is being organised by the WRU and former internationals Colin Charvis, Ryan Jones, Huw Bennett, Alix Popham, Tony Copsey, Robin McBryde, Les Keen, Aled Williams, Andy Moore and Anthony Buchanan who will all be taking part.

All the riders will be stopping off at Brecon RFC for a refuelling stop on the Sunday lunchtime and there will be ample opportunity for people to come along and support the Brecon Riders and meet the former Internationals.

The WRCT has a particular resonance for Brecon RFC as is has provided practical support and essential mobility equipment for two of our injured players, Peter Pies Welsh Rugby Hero, Andy Lewis, and Brecon’s World Number one ranked table tennis player, and aspiring paralympian, Rob Davies.

WRCT has provided practical assistance to both Rob and Andy over the years, which has enabled them both to get on with their lives, achieve success in their fields and, importantly, to play an active role in the community.

Additionally, and to highlight the community attachment to the Trust, support was provided in its early days for popular local teacher, and former player and coach (and 1970’s Neath stalwart), the late Keith Morris.

As a collective, the group are looking to play a part in raising funds for this event, and are calling encouraging the support of the community, and further afield, to help them reach their funding goal.
