THE talent of a member of the Brecon RFC U16s team has been recognised at international level.
Cally James, who is a pupil at Brecon High School, has been honoured by winning two caps having been selected to play for the Wales U16s team.
Cally, who began playing rugby at an early age at Llanfaes Primary SChool and with Brecon RFc U8s, earned his second cap playing against England at Ystrad Mynach last month.
He had previously been capped when he represented East Wales U11s in the annual fixture against West Wales. In that game he produced a man of the match performance and became the first Brecon player to receive that accolade.
Ron Rowsell of Brecon Rugby Club said: "From that early age Cally always showed great potential and possessed an imposing physical presence on the field allied with great footballing skills."
Cally’s talent was recognised early on with his selection for East Wales before last year, as an under 15, he was selected for the Blues U16 regional team and this year captained the side.
Ron added: "Cally’s selection for the Welsh team is fully deserved. In spite of his commitments to the Blues and the Welsh squad, he has remained loyal to his home club. The day before his full Welsh debut he was supporting Brecon Youth at their cup winning match against local rivals Builth Wells.
"The whole of Brecon RFC and Brecon High School together with the community of Brecon in general congratulate him on his outstanding achievement and hope that this is just a step on the ladder towards even higher achievements in the future."
