AS part of their club development plan, Crickhowell RFC held a ‘Rugby Novice’ day at their ground on Wednesday, February 21.

Pupils from the lower juniors of Llangattock and Llangynidr Primary schools, plus some youngsters on half-term, turned up to enjoy a variety of activities designed to foster skills and interest in the game of rugby. The weather was dry, though brisk, and the enthusiastic youngsters soon warmed up and spent around four hours learning basic skills. The club would like to extend its thanks to facilitator Gavin Dacey, the WRU Rugby Co-ordinator for the Heart of Wales. Also, event leader Marc Breeze, the Blues region hub officer, who was ably assisted by BTEC students from Cardiff Blues Community, Crickhowell High School and the club’s own coaches and players.

The day ended with a Q&A session with special guest Shane Lewis-Hughes of the Cardiff Blues.

A similar event for Crickhowell Primary School pupils is planned for the near future. The High School and Rugby Club will be working together to hopefully raise a Junior Rugby set-up starting with Under 7s and Under 8s this summer and are looking for players, coaches and volunteers to help make this a success.
