Caerau Ely 48 Llandrindod Wells 10.

LLANDRINDOD’S performance belied their position in this League as they competed with great enthusiasm, and no little skill, again a more experienced Cardiff-based outfit.

It was though Caerau Ely who put the first points on the board with a couple of swift tries, neither converted. This did not seem the worry Llandrindod at all as Aled Price, whose performance, together with that of Ashley Hammond, was quite outstanding.

Price, who drove Llandrindod out of deep defence on many occasions, scored an unconverted try to even up the score somewhat but two tries for the hosts, one converted, gave them a substantial 22-5 lead at half time.

The second half was almost a reprise of the first with Caerau Ely stretching their lead to over 40 points before a 30 metre Llandrindod rumble towards their opponent’s line brought a great opportunity to score.

Ashley Hammond, a perpetual thorn in Caerau Ely’s side throughout this game, duly did from a 10 metre scamper to touch down. This was the signal for the end whistle of a highly entertaining game.
