Tonyrefail 30 Llandrindod 3.

LLANDRINDOD were unable to replicate their home win against Tonyrefail earlier this season.

The return fixture showed many of the facets of that earlier encounter with the Llandrindod forwards maintaining their dominance.

It was however the home side’s backs that took full advantage of any opportunity to stretch their legs, their first try coming in the opening phases as a kick-ahead resulted in an easy run-in for a converted try.

Powerful runs in to the Llandrindod half were kept out by a dogged defence and then it was the visitor’s turn to attack with a series of loose mauls in the Tonyrefail 25, but the defence held firm.

A long passing movement from a Tonyrefail line out was rewarded with a converted try by Tonyrefail, and then an easy penalty kick in front of the posts, and then a further Tonyrefail try to end the first half with a 22 point lead.

The first 10 minutes of the second were controlled by Tonyrefail with a penalty and an unconverted try being their reward. After that, they seemed to sit back on their efforts which allowed Llandrindod to dominate the rest of the game.

Prop Ashley Hammond seemingly always in the thick of things until he was substituted, and it was only a good Tonyrefail defence that kept the visitors at bay before Llandrindod’s Danny Davies dropped a fine goal from some 30 metres out.

This week, Llandrindod host Canton in the League.
