Dinas Powis 6 Gwernyfed 10.
AFTER winning the home game Gwernyfed travelled to the wide expanse of Dinas Powis Common to play their first game in seven weeks.
From the early minutes it was clear that the home side preferred to use their speedy backs on the large pitch whilst the visitors employed the driving tighter game and after good work by the forwards and a strong run by Dan Draper the home side yielded a penalty easily converted by full back Gegs Williams.
Dinas Powis replied shortly after when their centre was able to find his way through to score what would be the only try of the game ably converted from wide out. Williams again kicked a penalty to make the score 7-6 to the home side.
Here the score remained until the final minutes with the game been played mainly in the middle of the park as both sides through good tackling kept their opposite numbers in track.
The second half saw the mid field battle continue with Gwenyfed not once able to get into the Dinas Powis twenty five, Dinas dominated possession but sterling tackling led by skipper Sam Stephens meant that the only time they went close was with the aid of the boot, one penalty hitting the post and others just failing to hit their mark.
As the game progressed Gwernyfed searched to break the home stranglehold to no avail as the home outside half eventually landed another penalty to take the final score to 10-6.
The late substitution saw new signing prop Andy Nicholl cause some discomfort to the home front row and all eyes will be on the first home game in two months against CRCC this weekend where Gwernyfed will be hoping to record their first double of the season and much needed points.
