ONE of the last home games of the season provided a perfect opportunity for the Gwernyfed Ladies Rugby team to present a cheque to their chosen charity, the Brecon Mountain Rescue team.
The ladies, who are based in Talgarth, have spent the winter months hard at work producing and selling their naked calendar. The 2016 edition proved as much a success as previous years and the team were able to donate an impressive £600 to the Brecon Mountain Rescue team; who they invited down to watch an entertaining match against UWIC last Sunday.
As a local charity who provide much needed assistance to those who run into difficulty in the surrounding mountainous areas, Brecon Mountain Rescue were an obvious choice to receive this year’s fundraising efforts. The ladies coach, Gordon Snape and one of the players, Katie Roby also volunteer for the Rescue team and were able to provide first-hand accounts of the work the charity do.
The ladies, who currently play in the Welsh Premiership, are always on the lookout for new players, even those with no experience. They train on a Thursday evening, 6.30pm at the Gwernyfed Rugby Club in Talgarth and would warmly welcome anyone wanting to give it a go. For more information contact Rosie Jones on 07961716789.
A new girls only rugby team, The Red Kites, for ages six to 15, started training last Friday, and regular training sessions will take place between 5.30 and 6.30pm at Gwernyfed RFC. Anyone interested in joining The Red Kites should visit wru.wales/girlsrugby or follow @RugbyKites on Twitter.
