BUILTH Wells Youth entertained Pontypridd youth in the quarter-finals of the Blues Cup.

In heavy conditions the first half was played mainly amongst the forwards with both sides having periods of sustained possession.

Builth were denied a try towards the end of the first half with the last pass in a flowing move adjudged to be forward.

After a sustained period of pressure at the start of the second half Pontypridd crossed for a try which they failed to convert.

With under 10 minutes remaining, Builth Youth responded with a move in which virtually every player had a touch of the ball and resulted in captain Lewys Williams crashing over the line in the corner for a try. Steffan Towns succssefully converting from out wide.

With a minute to go Pontypridd were awarded a penalty on Builth Wells’ 22 yard line. They elected to use a new kicker who failed to convert and Builth cleared the ball into touch and the final whistle securing a hard fought 7-5 win.
