Swalec WRU division three East Central B
Llandrindod Wells 12 Tylorstown 48
LLANDRINDOD welcomed top of the table Tylorstown to the Lant and the league leaders suffered an early scare before running out comfortable winners in the end.
Llandod started in the ascendancy and a series of line out drives as a result of pin point throwing from Aled Price and good pack cohesion saw the referee go under the posts for a penalty try converted by Joe Bradley.
Tylorstown then saw off a couple of Llandrindod attacks led by lively scrum half Dale Wilson and skipper Geraint Evans, before replying through a converted try of their own from Ryan Ackerman after a near open side line out move.
The remainder of the half saw both teams have chances with Danny Davies narrowly missing with a long range penalty before Tylorstown grabbed an unconverted try before the break through Gino Gazzi.
Tylorstown showed why they are top of the league and came out of the blocks in the second half. An early converted try from Gerald Collins settled their nerves and a only dogged defence from Llandrindod, with full back Bon Williams, Flankers Dave Ramplee and George Wozencraft to the fore prevented a try with a penalty being kicked by Mike Mellwich.
Llandrindod were now struggling to get their hands on the ball and a frantic defensive effort saw a series of penalty advantages awarded against them eventually Haydn O’Donohue crossed in the corner for Tylorstown but even more of a blow for the home team was the two yellow cards dished out to them at the same time.
This effectively ended the game as a contest and Tylorstown ran in three tries in this 10 minute period through Rhys Edwards, Luke Rees and Ryan Ackerman.
Llandrindod, to their credit, came back at the end and after a big scrum which was all the more impressive because front row Noël Davies Jones, Aled Price and Sam Davies all had to put a full 80 in. They marched the visitors backwards and a series of pick and drives saw inspirational skipper Geraint Evans crash over.
This despite an unflattering score line which didn’t reflect the game in parts was a big effort from Llandrindod who are slowly starting to get to grips with this level of rugby arguably the highest the club has ever played at.
This Friday Llandrindod travel the short distance to play Builth seconds in the mid wales cup, kick off 7.30pm.
