Llandovery Under 16s took the honours 17 – 7 against touring Irish side Old Crescent Under 16s in a recent closely fought game at Llandovery RFC’s ground at Church Bank.

The Drovers and Limerick’s Old Crescent club (once coached by ex-Wales International Mark Ring) have long-standing links at senior level, having met in pre-season games over the years and shared the craic at numerous Wales v Ireland and Ireland v Wales 6 Nations games going back two decades.

The visitors settled into their game a little quicker than a nervous Drovers, and took the first score, a try and conversion for their impressive No 10, a Munster Academy player.

A try from Drovers winger Anson Lau (making his debut), converted by Ryan Williams, levelled the scores at half time, at 7 – 7.

Early in the second half a touchdown by home captain Harri Doel put a glimmer of light between the sides. Old Crescent continued to threaten but the Drovers changed their tactics and went back to a more expansive game and with moving the ball along the line they reaped the dividends, with Doel scoring his second close in the corner.
