Glyncoch 12 Llandrindod Wells 7.

LLANDRINDOD visited one of their old rivals Glyncoch in what proved to be a tight and fractured affair where all the points were scored in the first half.

Llandrindod started the stronger with some barnstorming runs from the in-form Ashley Hammond, this week playing in the second row, which eventually led to the first score of the game from centre Danny Davies, which he duly converted from in front of the posts.

This spurred the home team into action with pressure and territory belonging to Glyncoch for large parts of the remaining first half. Llandrindod’s ever improving defence to their credit held firm until a scrum on their five yard line led to a score for the home teams number eight which wasn’t converted making the score 7-5 to Llandrindod.

The Glyncoch pressure continued with Llandrindod failing to gain any concerted possession and this led to the away team giving away a number of penalties which led to two yellow cards, leaving Llandrindod with only 13 men on the field. The two man advantage proved too much and Glyncoch went over for their second score which this time was converted giving them a five point advantage. The referee then blew for half time.

The second half was a lot more even with both teams enjoying extended periods of possession but both being unable to trouble the score board.

Glyncoch received a yellow card of their own for persistent back-chat and Llandrindod piled on the pressure with scrum half Dale Wilson going close but unfortunately not being able to ground the ball after a kick through.

With around ten minutes to go Glyncoch received a straight red card to one of their flankers for a vicious stamp but Llandrindod were unable to capitalise and the rest of the game petered out without any real incident.

This Saturday Llandrindod entertain St Albans from Cardiff, kick off 2.30pm.
