Brynmawr 26 Brecon 18
BRECON will return to the Gwent Valleys this Saturday after leaving Brynmawr empty handed.
Defeat at Brynmawr has left Brecon in eighth place in Swalec 1 East and 11 points ahead of bottom club Blackwood who they face on Saturday.
The Parc De Pugh outfit had expected a tough test in harsh conditions at fourth placed Brynmawr and were realistically chasing a losing bonus point.
That eluded them however when Gari Davies, whose boot had kept the visitors in contention, narrowly failed to convert Danny Howe’s second half try.
Howe’s try had given Brecon late hope after a yellow card saw Brecon reduced to 14 men midway through the second half. Brecon’s scrum came under heavy pressure and a series of collapsed scrums near the Brecon line eventually saw the referee award a penalty try which was converted.
Now 26-13 down and facing the wind Brecon looked out of the game until Howe stole over for his try but the failed conversion left them one point short of the bonus point which would have drawn them level with Risca in the table.
