THE Red Kites girls’ rugby cluster welcomed Wales Women’s International Philippa Tuttiett as guest speaker to their end of season presentation evening at Gwernyfed RFC recently.

Having enjoyed numerous sports as a youngster, Philippa took up rugby at university and went on to be internationally capped at Rugby Union, Rugby 7’s and Touch Rugby. She captained the Welsh women’s team at the Common Wealth Games and is coach to the Welsh international sevens team. Philippa also runs her own successful building company and mentors young aspiring sports people. During the awards evening Philippa told the audience about her own journey as an athlete and encouraged each of the girls to always give 100%, to believe in themselves in order to reach their potential in whatever they do.

Philippa awarded each rugby kite with a trophy and awards for players’ player, most improved and coaches player in each age group. Coaches, referees, first aiders, team managers, schools’ rugby hub officers and volunteers in many capacities were all thanked for their commitment and support for girls’ rugby and the role that they have each played in developing and strengthening the growing cluster.

The presentation evening was rounded off with a Question and Answer session followed by many of the girls having their picture taken with Philippa.
