Builth Wells 20 Tondu 15..
BUILTH continued their recent run of good form with this well deserved victory over basement side Tondu.
The home side started strongly through a dominant scrum and effective driving maul and opened the scoring on 14 minutes when No8 Ben Duggan was driven over from close range with full back Seb Barrett adding the extra points.
From the restart the Bulls worked their way back into the visitors 22 giving the opportunity for outside half Gavin Jones to slot over a well struck drop goal for a deserved.
Builth continued to dominate both territory and possession but through a mixture of wrong options and stout defence from the visitors could not add to their score.
Tondu began to use their backs on the counter and were rewarded with an unconverted try to reduce the deficit.
Barrett increased the lead with a well struck penalty on the half hour but it was the visitors who finished the stronger adding a penalty on the stroke of half time.
Builth came out of the blocks the quicker after the break and were rewarded with a try from flanker Tom Samuel after good work at the line out and again Barrett added the conversion for a commanding 20-8 lead.
With 10 minutes remaining a counter attack from Tondu resulted in a converted try that brought the visitors back to within five points. The Bulls comfortably played out the remaining minutes in their opponents half to seal a fine victory by 20-15.
Although the margin of victory should have been greater there were plenty of positives with the hard working back row unit of Duggan, Samuel and Morris to the fore while second rows Evans and Oakley made the hard yards with ball in hand.
Behind the scrum Barrett was dependable with ball in hand and accurate off the tee while centre Boore was always involved in attack and defence. One downside were the leg injuries to Jones and Oakley.
This week Builth are at home again to Maesteg.
