BRECON Promenade was awash with activity on Sunday November 1 as Brecon Canoe Club held its inaugural division four slalom event.

Despite a foggy start numerous paddlers from various Welsh clubs came to battle it out in ‘fresh’ water temperatures in one of the last events of the year.

The battles not only took place between the competitors vying for promotion to division three but also between father and daughter in the shape of Steve Rayner and Jess Rayner, a current Welsh premier division paddler, daughter pipped father to the post by 0.5 of a second.

Kayak one (K1) Men’s division four saw promotions to division three by Christopher Wainwright from Glam Boaters, who also took first place, and Christopher Williams from Brecon who also took second place, an accolade as Christopher is in the Junior 12 category.

Third place was again kept in the family as Tom Williams took third place, a fine achievement for a Junior 10 youngster.

K1 Women’s division four was won by Maxine Alderman of Seren Dwr, second place was awarded to Julia Aldous of Abergavenny followed by Makayla Bourne also of Seren Dwr who comfortably won third place and who were all also promoted to division three along with Vicky Aldous of Abergavenny.
