IT’S been a year of success for Brecon Hockey Club members on the international stage.
Brecon had 12 players selected to play for Wales last season and eight in European tournaments.
Ben Foxley and Tom Wood were both part of the under 18 boys squad to compete at European championship held in Glasgow at the Commonwealth Hockey venue. The boys finished seventh with Tom contributing to the score sheet.
Deltyh Thomas and Beth Wood travelled to Gibraltar to compete in the under 18 girls Europeans. They were crowned champions following a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in the final.
Harry Copp, Jet Treasure Jefferies and Beth Wood travelled to Lithuania as part of the Euro Five’s team. Five’s is played on half a pitch with board around the pitch. The boys took it to a nail biting finish with the final going to shuffles.
Wales won and took the gold. The girls also made it to the final with Wood as captain but they lost to Belarus in the final 4-3 coming back with the silver medal.
Jack Christain and Ben Cuthbertson-Smith made their debut in Switzerland at Easter, Jack with under 16 and Ben with under 18s. Lenka Halpin also had her first game for Wales under 16 girls against Scotland.
Veteran Lee Marshall has also travelled the globe representing the men.
If anyone has been inspired after the Rio Olympics, Brecon are always looking for new and old players to join the growing squad. Training is on Wednesday evenings at Christ College. U9s, U11s and U13s between 6pm and 7pm and U15s and adults 7-8.30pm.
