AFTER all the snow of recent weeks the Rhayader club were rewarded with the first glimpses of spring on Sunday for their Jack Frost Enduro incorporating the second round of the ET James Welsh Enduro Championship.
The club had worked hard to put the event on with preparations being hampered by snow with the club bringing in machinery to cut tracks through the remaining drifts that lay around the route, this meant a very tough, physical route for the full entry of this popular event.
In the championship class Dan Mundell was fully up to speed on his new Sherco posting sub four minute times on all five tests which gave him over 40 seconds advantage over Jay Thomas who’s tests were consistently around four minutes with lap four the best dipping under the four minute barrier.
Charlie Evans started with a couple of sluggish tests but soon made use of the extra power of his 450 Yamaha to break four minutes on his last three tests drawing him ever closer to Jay but was just three seconds behind runner up Thomas at the finish.
Adam James won the first two tests in the large Experts class before Aaron Gordon got into his stride to win the last three tests to take the win from James who in turn just held off Jordan Ridgeway who got faster as the day went on but finally finished a tenth of a second behind Adam.
The Expert Vets was as always super competitive with Anthony Griffith just 17 seconds ahead of Jamie Jenkins who in turn was just ten seconds ahead of third man Greg Hurley.
Having won the opening round of the British Championship clubman class Harry Houghton won again but needed a super fast last test to beat up and coming Sam Davies of Llandrindod reversing a five second deficit into a four second win, with third place Charlie Chater and fourth man Jac George all within 30 seconds of each other it looks like the championship with be hard fought this year.
Carl Davies won the Clubman Vets class by 16 seconds from Michael Wood while Mathew Harries took a comfortable win in the Sportsman class by over a minute
