MARTIN Thomas put a smile on the face of Llandrindod Wells fight fans with a points win in Shrewsbury.

Thomas met Jamie Owen from Wrexham and came through a torrid last round to beat him on points.

The opening round was quiet. Owen dropped his hands invitingly, but Thomas didn’t fall into the trap, doubling up his jab to build an early lead.

Thomas was also the busier in the second round – before he ran into trouble in the last.

There was a tremendous toe-to-toe exchange at the start of the round and the final minute was tough for Thomas.

He was nailed flush several times, but toughed it out to take the decision 29-28.
