Llandrindod Wells Sports Centre will host this year’s WRL Wheelchair Grand Final in early March.
The Grand Final will take place on Saturday, 8 March at 1.30pm.
The four-round competition started on the weekend of February 7-8, when South Wales Jets beat last season’s Grand Final winners 34-30 in Ystrad Mynach, with Cardiff Blue Dragons and Aber Valley Wolves fighting out a 34-all draw.
With just two more regular-season rounds to go, every match is important, and we may not see the make-up of the Grand Final sides until the final week, although if Jets and Crusaders both win their second matches this weekend on Sunday, 22 February, then the Jets will be confirmed as the first finalists.
Stephen Jones, head of Wheelchair Rugby League in Wales said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase our sport to a new audience. We’ve been at Llandrindod Wells for Wales training in the past, but it’s the first time we’ve taken a league match there. I’m sure it will be an exciting match, whoever makes the final.”
Following the Grand Final, Crusaders go into the RFL Championship, whilst the southern sides will organise local competitions around Wales, which will include training and matches. The season will then end in September with a two-round knock-out cup competition between the Blue Dragons, Wolves, Jets and Crusaders.
On Sunday, 22 February, at 10.20am – Cardiff Blue Dragons v South Wales Jets. At 11.40am – Aber Valley Wolves v North Wales Crusaders (Both at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre).
On Saturday, 28 February, at 10.30am – North Wales Crusaders v Cardiff Blue Dragons (Plas Madoc Leisure Centre, Wrexham). At 11.20am – Aber Valley Wolves v South Wales Jets (Caerphilly Leisure Centre, Caerphilly)
The Grand Final takes place on Sunday, 8 March, at 1.30pm in Llandrindod Wells Sports Centre.
