This Saturday sees the final Pool games in the SRC Cup after which we will know the four teams to make the semi finalists on February 28, writes Huw S Thomas.

The big game of the weekend will be at Eugene Cross Park (at 2pm) where Cup holders Llandovery and Ebbw Vale will do battle to see who will finish top of Pool B.

Llandovery lead the pool by six points - 18 to 12 - but the Steelmen had the misfortune of seeing their game against Swansea declared a 0-0 draw after the cancellation of the tie because of ground conditions.

The WRU deemed that the fixture could not be rescheduled because of time restrictions and Ebbw had to accept the two points for the draw.

This effectively means that if Ebbw Vale are to finish top, they have to not only beat Llandovery but get two bonus points in the process and also stop Llandovery scoring four tries for their bonus point.

If they manage that, then they will end on 18 points and be top dogs through the criteria of having lost fewer games than Llandovery (see competition rules).

Whichever club that finishes top of Pool B will be at home to the runners up of Pool A in one semi final whilst the winners of Pool A will get home advantage over the runners up of Pool B in the other.

There is a very remote chance that Swansea might make the semi finals if they thrash Bridgend in their remaining game in Pool B and Ebbw Vale lose to Llandovery without any points at all.

Newport are already confirmed as winners of Pool A but the runners up spot is wide open with Pontypool on eight points, RGC on seven points and Carmarthen Quins on six points all in contention.

Pontypool travel to bottom side Cardiff on Thursday night before RGC entertain the Quins on Saturday.

If the tables remain unaltered after the week end then the semi finals will see Newport play Ebbw Vale and Llandovery face Pontypool but all that could change with the runners up fight in Pool A open to a surprise.
