Knighton Town dropped vital points in the Ardal League North East title race as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Corwen.

Luke Boundford had given the Radnor Robins the lead just before half-time with his 19th league goal of the season. That looked set to be enough to earn Knighton a sixth successive league win, but Scott Evans snatched a dramatic equaliser for the visitors in stoppage time.

Knighton were again without Will Evans and Sam Hoyle, who are travelling, as well as the injured Callum Stead, while Kieran Dovey was another absentee on Saturday. They suffered a further blow in the first half when Connor Bird was forced off, but his replacement, teenager Henry Shaw, impressed with a strong performance.

Boundford opened the scoring on 43 minutes, slotting home after Shane Sutton headed a corner into his path. Knighton probably deserved all three points but failed to find the all-important second goal, and Corwen, who battled throughout, were rewarded when their captain Evans produced a fine finish right at the death.

In their first season at Tier Three, Knighton will be disappointed to have dropped points but remain well placed for a top-two finish, having lost just once in 18 league matches.

Radnor Valley saw their four-match winning run come to an end as they were held to a 2-2 draw away at bottom-of-the-table Lex X1. The Goats needed a late, late equaliser from Matt Croose to salvage a point.

Radnor started brightly, with Jack Clarke seeing a couple of efforts cleared off the line, while Croose also went close. Defender-turned-striker Croose did put Radnor ahead in the first half, turning in a shot from Clarke that was heading wide.

Lex changed shape after the break and Rudi Suckley equalised following a corner. Zack Davies then fired the hosts into the lead on 70 minutes.

With Lex closing in on their first win of the season, Croose spared Radnor’s blushes eight minutes into stoppage time, combining with Isaac Price before netting his second of the afternoon.

It was the second 2-2 draw between the sides this season and the point lifts Radnor into a creditable fifth place in the table. Manager Adam Jones, who missed the trip, said: “Disappointed not to have won, but I’ll settle for 13 points from 15.”

Builth Wells’ crucial home clash with Llangollen Town fell victim to the weather, while Llandrindod Wells’ trip to Dolgellau was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Knighton’s slip allowed leaders Llanuwchllyn to extend their advantage at the top to seven points after a hard-earned 1-0 win at Kerry. Substitute Steffan Dolben scored the decisive goal in the second half, while Kerry’s Matt Mumford was sent off in stoppage time - his third red card of the season.

In the only other game to go ahead, second-half goals from Evan Davies and Dyfan Thomas earned Rhos Aelwyd a 2-1 home victory over Penycae, who had led through Dominic Deacon. Penycae remain fourth but are now without a win in seven matches.
