In-form Radnor Valley moved into the top half of the Ardal League North East with a 3-1 success over Mid Wales rivals, Kerry, at The Bypass, writes Paul Worts.

In atrocious conditions, goals from Joey Price, Alfie Hardwick and Jack Clarke made it four straight wins for The Goats.

Radnor made an early breakthrough with Joey Price converting Jack Clarke’s low cross from the right, but Kerry equalised midway through the first half with Ed Clarke setting up Steffan Rogers. It remained 1-1 until 77 minutes, when Radnor regained the lead with Alfie Hardwick netting his first goal for the club after fellow substitute, Charlie Beaumont, had pulled the ball back. In Radnor’s next attack, they added a third goal with Joey Price providing the cross and Jack Clarke the finish to secure the points.

Knighton Town kept themselves well in contention for a top-two finish with a routine 3-1 victory at bottom-of-the-table Lex, who played most of the afternoon with ten men. Knighton travelled without defenders Adam Worton, Will Evans and Josh Bull, and the home side, yet to win in the league this season, took the lead through George Baxter. Luke Boundford immediately put The Radnor Robins level, and Connor Bird, making his first start for the first team following injury, had them ahead before the break after Lex had a man sent off. Knighton knew they really needed a third goal to kill the game, and it duly arrived from Kieran Dovey twelve minutes from time.

Builth Wells extended their recent unbeaten run to three with another valuable point in a 1-1 draw at Corwen. Jamie Rainbird gave Corwen the lead midway through the first half and could have added a second but saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Builth ‘keeper, Kham Steventon, who had brought down an attacker.

Ryan Powell has been outstanding in defence for Builth this season, and he also proved his worth at the other end of the pitch, equalising when the home ‘keeper failed to gather a Harry Edwards free-kick five minutes into the second half. With the elements now in their favour, Builth, for whom Keegan McGing impressed in midfield, might have snatched the win, with Lee James missing a headed chance while Harry Edwards pulled a couple of shots wide. But Corwen themselves felt they could have won it with the last play of the day when Joe Ephraim rounded Steventon, but his effort from a tight angle was blocked by the excellent Powell.

Builth are now just a point behind arch-rivals Llandrindod Wells, who went down to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Bow Street. Llandrindod have a good recent record against Bow Street, having won the previous three league meetings, but are currently struggling for results, although performances have not been that bad. Bow Street, who included former Spa man Gavin Rowlands on the substitutes’ bench, got the only goal of the afternoon on the half-hour mark through the returning Callum Page, meaning Llandrindod have now won just once in their last twelve league outings.

Llanuwchllyn remain top after goals from Dafydd Griffith and Meilir Williams steered them to a 2-0 home success over Rhos Aelwyd, and Alex Williams bagged a hat-trick for Cefn Albion, who won 3-1 at Penycae, who had led through Dominic Deacon’s first-minute goal.

William Cooke scored twice as Llangollen Town picked up much-needed points in a 2-1 win at Llanrhaeadr, whose Garmon Evans gained an injury-time consolation from the penalty spot.
