Brecon FC hauled themselves back into the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) title race at the weekend with a 4-1 victory at Talgarth Town.
Kyran Dillan scored twice, with Owain Powell-Jones and Owen Edwards also on target as the Stags handed the Royals their first league defeat of the season.
Player-manager Scott Phillips set up Powell-Jones to give Brecon an early lead, which Dillan quickly doubled after capitalising on a defensive error. Talgarth responded, but keeper Declan Gaydon made two fine saves before conceding when a cross deflected off Edwards.
After half-time, two quick Brecon goals sealed the win. Edwards made amends for his own goal by heading in Aaron Mills’ free-kick for the third, and Dillan completed the scoring with a superb volley, following a flick-on from Powell-Jones.
The victory leaves Brecon four points behind leaders Hay St Marys, while Talgarth trail the Saints by three points but have played a game more. With eight games remaining, Hay are favourites for the title, though manager Scott Warren is taking nothing for granted.
All other scheduled matches in the league were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
