The Old Railway Line Garden Centre has installed a new recycling bin for compost bags.

This eco-conscious initiative, in collaboration with Evergreen Garden Care, marks another milestone in the garden centre’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The new recycling bin, located in the garden centre’s car park, aims to address the environmental challenges posed by single-use plastic compost bags. By providing a designated collection point for compost bags, the garden centre seeks to divert these items away from landfills and instead channel them towards recycling and reuse.

The bags get recycled into pellets and the pellets are used for garden furniture or ultimately another compost bag.

With 40,000 litres of storage for recycled water, 210 solar panels powering the shop, and sourcing from over 60 local suppliers, the garden centre is seeking ways to reduce its ecological footprint and make sustainable living equally as accessible for their customers.

“We are passionate about making a positive impact on the environment and fostering a greener future,” said Katie Eckley, operations director.

“The addition of the recycling bin for compost bags is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability.

“It reinforces our belief that every small step towards recycling and reusing materials can collectively make a big difference.”
