Fire crews from Brecon and Talgarth tackled a fierce horsebox blaze in Libanus on Thursday evening (December 4), with firefighters remaining at the scene for more than two hours.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called at 6.03pm after reports that a vehicle had caught fire. When they arrived, the horsebox was already “well alight”.

The driver and a horse had managed to get clear of the vehicle before firefighters arrived. Both were uninjured.

Firefighters used three hose reel jets, two sets of breathing apparatus, two thermal imaging cameras and an environmental pack to bring the blaze under control. A water bowser from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, from Merthyr Tydfil, was also sent to support the operation.

Crews fully extinguished the fire before carrying out further damping down. They left the scene at 8.14pm.
