A 20-year-old woman from Crickhowell has died following a "serious" crash in Brynmawr. 

She has now been named as Sophie Brimble and she died at the scene in King Street, Brynmawr in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

A 24-year-old man from Brynmawr was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after suffering "serious injuries". He is currently receiving treatment. 

Gwent Police said the crash involved a black Volkswagen Polo. 

The force is appealing for information and said: "A serious road traffic collision occurred on King Street, Brynmawr at around 12.25am on Wednesday, July 26. 

"One occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman from Crickhowell was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.  

Another occupant, a 24-year-old man from Brynmawr was seriously injured and is presently receiving treatment at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff.  

"The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers.  

"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have any information relating to it is asked to call 101, quoting log: 13 26/07/2017."
