Sennybridge had their very own Jubilee celebrations with a Picnic at the Camp last weekend, held at the Sennybridge Military Camp.

The rain did not dampen their spirits on Sunday and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all.

The Sennybridge Jubilee King and Queen were none other than the County Councillor Edwin Roderick and Ann Davies, who were suitably dressed for the occasion.

Queen Ann said: “Our Jubilee celebrations in Sennybridge were excellent. Marc Williams and Kayleigh Thompson did our Maescar Community Council proud and the support from local businesses donating a raffle prize was outstanding, with proceeds towards new play equipment at the park in Coedwaungar.

“Turn out on the day was also wonderful as the weather was not overly kind. Thanks go to Major Karl Dawson and the team for providing an excellent venue”.

King Edwin added: “It was a marvellous afternoon enjoyed by all along with plenty of laughs with our loyal subjects!”

There were a number of great entries for the children competitions included a drawing of the Queen (1st – Holly Williams, 2nd – Millie Burke, 3rd – Sienna Sherwood-Price), making a crown (1st – Henry Greenow, 2nd – Ted Greenow, 3rd – Carys Lewis), colouring in competition (1st – Evie Lewis, 2nd – Sienna Sherwood-Price, 3rd – Carys Lewis) and fancy dress (1st – Bella Davies)

There were also three wonderful floats depicting the Queen’s 70 years on the throne with the 1st prize going to the Sennybridge & Defynnog WI.

Fay Jones, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire attended and judged all of the competitions.

Ms Jones said: “I enjoyed a superb afternoon at the Sennybridge Jubilee Picnic at the Camp.

“The event was wonderfully supported by local businesses and locals alike. After being unable to get together for such a long time, to be able to see so many people celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee together made it even more special.

“Thank you so much for inviting me to judge the children’s crafts and the floats, and a massive thank you to the organisers.”

The Sennybridge School Choir and Cantorion Pontsenni provided excellent performances on the makeshift stage, entertaining the crowds throughout the afternoon.

The Sennybridge YFC provided their winning Main Ring Display of the Queen’s 70-year reign, that won 1st place at the Brecknock YFC Rally the day before. They were fortunate to be joined by Lance Corporal Kris Hanlon from the Royal Irish Regiment playing the bagpipes.

Stalls on the day included the Glanusk Services, the Body Shop, the Defynnog Vintage Society, Barry Bridgway with wood crafts, the Upper Usk Valley and the Rarebit Arty Farty group, and refreshments by the Hungry Hut.

Marc Williams, one of the organisers, said: “We had a fantastic afternoon to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee and to come together again as a community after a difficult couple of years.

“The weather was not fully on our side, but the show must go on and everyone enjoyed the festivities and activities.

“I would like to express my thanks to all who attended and to everyone for their help and support to make the event such a resounding success.”
