As the Armed Forces community comes together for Christmas, SSAFA’s Powys Branch is reflecting on a year of meaningful local impact and looking ahead to 2026.
Throughout 2025, volunteers across the county delivered a busy programme of activity, from coffee mornings and remembrance events to awareness stands at the Royal Welsh and Brecon Shows. Highlights also included a cocktail reception at 160 Brigade headquarters and visits to veteran hubs, helping the charity connect with those who need support and those keen to learn more about its work.
Community support also played a key role. Donations from the Infantry Battle School, Llandrindod Bingo Evening Club, and visitors at Talgarth Farmers Market boosted the branch’s efforts, with some locals generously giving their raffle tickets to those in need.
SSAFA Powys Branch Chair, Jacqueline Wilding, paid tribute to volunteers and supporters:
“Christmas is a reminder of the importance of community, and our volunteers have embodied that spirit all year,” she said.
“Every conversation, every coffee morning and every event has strengthened the support available to our Armed Forces family here in Powys.
“I want to thank everyone who has stood with us in 2025 – and invite more people to join us in 2026 as we continue to grow our outreach, expand our volunteer team and support even more veterans and their families.”
Looking ahead, the branch has a full programme planned for 2026, including a St David’s Day Concert, regular coffee mornings, and a SSAFA awareness talk at Christ College. Volunteers will continue attending major county events and visiting veteran hubs, while the branch is encouraging new recruits, particularly those interested in community engagement, to help meet rising demand for support.
SSAFA has supported serving personnel, veterans, reserves, and their families since 1885. To volunteer, fundraise, or get help, visit the SSAFA website.
