VISITORS to y Gaer, Brecon’s museum and library complex, have had a taste of the town’s newest cafe.

Caffi y Gaer is operated by the NPTC College Brecon Beacons Campus, is expected to open its doors in late March or early April.

At lunchtime today the cafe opened its doors for a taster session to give customers and staff an idea of what to expect when it is fully operational.

Alan Ball, senior catering officer for NPTC, said the response has been “fantastic” and it is important that the cafe builds up a good profile.

“We want customers to come in and use it, but to remember us. Cross-fertilisation is important because if someone comes into the museum or library and sees there is a cafe then they could use that facility and vice-versa,” said Mr Ball of the cafe which is located in y Gaer’s foyer at the Captain’s Walk entrance.

He said the cafe will employ one manager and two apprentices: “We want to employ people that represent us in the best possible way. It’s a bit of a shop window for us.”

The museum and library at y Gaer opened in December.
