An equine rescue charity based in the Brecon Beacons alerted to the plight of four abandoned and starving ponies arrived with just minutes to spare to prevent them from being destroyed.
Lluest Horse and Pony Trust stepped in to offer the ponies a home despite every available stable being full on their 40-acre farm site.
Lluest Trustee Rhiannon Pugh said: "After much deliberation and soul searching nobody at Lluest wanted to see the ponies’ lives ended and while we are able to house them in our medical isolation unit for their first six weeks, we may struggle for space after that unless we are able to move some of our other 28 resident equines into loan or foster homes. We are therefore appealing to the Powys equine community to contact us if they feel they could offer any of our equines a home, we have many horses and ponies ready to be re-homed now."
The four rescued ponies, believed to have been abandoned up to 18 months ago had been struggling to survive in harsh conditions just outside the village of Gwynfe. Lluest staff have chosen to name the ponies after this year’s storms in recognition of their battle against the relentless rain and winds this winter. Eva, Gertie, Henry and Imogen are now responding well to a warm stable, food and expert care from Lluest grooms and local vets .
