The choir, with friends and supporters, travelled to the capital in comfort on a Williams Coaches coach, and enjoyed a two-night stay in Kensington.

Festival participants gathered at the iconic venue for rehearsals before the evening performance. For some members of the Brecon choir, it was their first opportunity to perform on the Royal Albert Hall stage.

The massed choir was accompanied by the Welsh Chamber Orchestra and organist Huw Williams. The festival was hosted by the London Welsh Male Voice Choir and conducted by its musical director, Dr Edward-Rhys Harry, with support from deputy musical director Christopher Barr. Accompaniment was provided by Annabel Thwaite.

The concert was the culmination of months of preparation by the choir and its musical team. Musical director Lynnette Thomas, deputy musical director Lynne Griffin and accompanist Becky Drysdale worked with members throughout the year to prepare the programme, which included several pieces new to the choir's repertoire.

Marc Williams, secretary of Aberhonddu & District Male Choir, described the occasion as a proud and emotional experience.

"To perform on the iconic stage of the Royal Albert Hall is an incredible experience and such an honour to be part of the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs," he said.

"It was an extremely proud moment when Aberhonddu & District Male Choir was announced and the choir was asked to stand in recognition. To hear thousands of people applauding was something very special.

"Looking out across the vast audience at the Royal Albert Hall and to sing on that stage was simply outstanding. The atmosphere, the applause and the standing ovation at the end created memories that will stay with us forever."

Marc also emphasised the importance of preserving the Welsh male voice choir tradition.

"Male voice choirs are such an important part of our Welsh heritage and culture. Our choir is at the heart of the Beacons community and that is something that should be treasured and celebrated,” he said.

"Beyond the music, the choir offers friendship, camaraderie and great fun. It provides opportunities to travel, perform and create lifelong memories. Last year we were fortunate enough to sing in the Dolomites in Italy, and this year we have enjoyed the incredible privilege of performing at the Royal Albert Hall."

The choir is always keen to welcome new members and encourages anyone who enjoys singing to come along and experience the unique atmosphere of a Welsh male voice choir.

Anyone interested in joining can contact thee choir via email ([email protected]) or social media, or attend a rehearsal at Brynich Barn on Thursday evenings from 7pm.

Prospective members are welcome to listen, join in, and discover for themselves the friendship and enjoyment that have made the choir such a valued part of the community.
