A group of 40 members of the Brecon-Gouesnou Twinning Association has returned from a visit to their twin town in Brittany.

The group travelled on Tuesday, May 26, by coach and car in good weather, before crossing overnight from Plymouth to Roscoff on calm seas. From there they continued on to Gouesnou, where they were welcomed with coffee and croissants by local committee members and friends.

Gouesnou is a commune in Finistère in north-west France.

During the visit, the group was taken to a memorial dedicated to American soldiers who lost their lives in the area during the Second World War. They were also received at the town hall by the mayor.

After lunch, the visitors went to Jardin du Moulin Neuf in Ploudalmézeau, a botanical garden and small animal park.

The itinerary also included trips to Morlaix and Landevennec, where the group visited the Espaces des Sciences and a local abbey. A visit to the coastal commune of Le Faou also featured on the programme.

In the evenings, members of the twinning group spent time with their hosts. The Friday night included a shared meal with entertainment from local singers performing with guitars.

The Saturday was spent with host families, who took visitors to a range of local sites, attractions and points of interest.

The group returned home on Sunday. Members said they were struck by the warmth of the welcome and the time spent with local families.

They highlighted shared meals and personal friendships as a key part of the trip.

Members are now looking ahead to welcoming their French counterparts to Brecon next April, when they hope to continue building the relationship between the two towns.
