As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week (June 1–7), Brecon and District Dial-a-Ride is shining a spotlight on the incredible people who make the charity “More Than a Minibus.”
People exactly like Peter.
After more than 40 inspiring ears as a volunteer driver, Peter has recently hung up his minibus keys. While he doesn’t want grand accolades, we couldn’t let this milestone pass without sharing his reflection on four decades of community service. Peter was instrumental in launching our Sunday service, helping residents attend church and maintain their independence. For passengers, it provided dignity.
As Peter points out: “Some preferred to maintain their independence and not rely on a friend or neighbour week after week... I often felt I had gained more from assisting these inspiring people than they had from me.”
Over the years, Peter’s volunteering became a family affair when his wife joined him on board as a passenger assistant, turning journeys into lifelong friendships.
Peter’s retirement marks the end of an era, but the Sunday service must keep turning. To honour his legacy, we need the next generation of volunteer heroes. If you can spare just a few hours once a month, you have what it takes. We provide full, professional MiDAS training, ultimate flexibility, and unmatched job satisfaction. Thank you, Peter, for a lifetime of service.
You changed our community for the better, one journey at a time.
