For a small town like Brecon I think it is quite astonishing that the Westenders, Brecon Little Theatre (BLT), Theatre Wildcats and Brecon High School can produce such polished breathtaking performances time after time.
Last week Brecon theatregoers enjoyed an enduring performance of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” which left audiences both breathless and wanting more. Standing ovations abounded.
Accompanied by Conductor Chris Rankin’s superb orchestra Owain Evans-Taylor portrayed Joseph seemingly without any effort as song after song was delivered with the confidence of a West End star. He was supported by a huge cast of Joseph’s “brothers”, Dancers, Junior Dancers and Ensemble. Ruby Sowerby as the Pharoah sang wonderfully well and captured the hearts of the onlookers who thought Elvis had entered the building!
The Director Angharad Allen, her various teams and theatre technical support created class singing and dancing across age groups, with costumes and makeup that brought the Joseph story truly alive. Various external supporters were thanked in the Programme.
With productions of Halloween (Guildhall), Bugsy Malone and pantomimes ahead I hope Brecon residents and friends will continue to enjoy such wonderful local community entertainment. We are so, so lucky.
