THREE people have been arrested today by policing investigating an attempted telephone fraud where callers claim to be police requesting large sums of money.
Several elderly people in Brecon have received phone calls where the callers have claimed to be police officers from a fraud unit.
The callers have then tried to persuade people to withdraw large sums of cash from their banks and have arranged for the cash to be collected from their homes.
Dyfed-Powys Police want anyone receiving the calls to contact them from a different telephone.
A spokeswoman said: "Don’t engage with these calls – hang up immediately, and tell anyone who might be vulnerable to scammers to do the same. Do not disclose your location or bank details. Be aware that fraudsters often keep the telephone line open for a period of time after the call has been terminated. Contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101 from a different telephone."
The spokeswoman said the three people arrested are currently in police custody and the investigation is continuing.
