Police are urging social media users in Powys to be aware of a scam news article circulating online.

The article falsely claims a woman was assaulted in Knighton and offers links to so-called "safety products".

Dyfed-Powys Police have said that users should not be alarmed, and that no such incident occurred in Knighton.

They further said that the fake news is looking to scam social media users out of their personal details.

A police spokeswoman said: "Please be aware that if these new stories pop up in your newsfeed, they are a scam.

"No such incident has occurred in Knighton, Powys, so please do not be alarmed.

"Protect your personal details online; stay safe and secure."
