Aston Martin’s announcement that it will build its new supercar at St Athan is great news for Wales but offers a "stark reminder that Brecon and Radnorshire consistently misses out on well-paid, highly-skilled jobs", the Conservative Assembly candidate has said.
Gary Price said the news showed more needed to be done to attract businesses to the area, and to give young people an incentive to stay.
"I am constantly impressed by the commitment, enterprise and success of so many businesses in Brecon and Radnorshire. However, we need more and bigger investment to offer our youngsters an incentive to stay in the area," he said.
"The news from St Athan underlines the fact that in order to attract high quality, well paid jobs an area must offer good communication and facilities. For far too many years Brecon and Radnorshire has not even featured in the Wales Transport Plan prepared by an M4/A55 focused Welsh Labour Government.
"This news typifies how we consistently miss out - someone has got to shout up for Brecon and Radnorshire in the Welsh Assembly, otherwise our brightest youngsters will continue to move away to use their abilities to best effect.
"If elected I will work with our MP, Chris Davies, to convene a summit in the autumn of this year for business people and prospective investors in Brecon and Radnorshire. We will bring together the best of ideas and collaborate to bring pressure to bear upon all levels of Government, upon the training bodies and the financiers to invest in an area where we can offer the brightest youngsters and a great environment for business and jobs."
