David Chadwick has welcomed confirmation that the temporary Banking Hub in Ystradgynlais is expected to open on Thursday, May 15 in The Welfare on Brecon Road.
The opening of the banking hub comes following a successful campaign by Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe MP Mr Chadwick and the Welsh Liberal Democrats to convince regulators there was a case for a hub in the town.
The Hub will provide vital access to in-person banking and cash services for residents. It will operate as a temporary facility while work continues to deliver a permanent Hub in the town, secured through the same campaign.
“This is great news for Ystradgynlais,” said Mr Chadwick.
“After months of pressure, rejected applications, and hard work, including personally showing the Banking Hub regulator around our vibrant town, I’m pleased we now have an expected opening date for the temporary Hub.
“I launched this campaign to make sure communities like Ystradgynlais and the surrounding area aren’t cut off from essential services, especially after the loss of the town’s high street banks in recent years.
“Thanks to that work, we’ll soon have this temporary hub in place and a permanent one to follow. I’ll keep pushing to make sure the permanent facility is delivered and our towns aren’t left behind.”
Ystradgynlais has been without a high street bank since September 2023 when Lloyds left the town, despite being the second largest town in Powys and the largest town in the Swansea Valley.
