Biweekly vigils are being held outside St Mary’s Church in Brecon by activists in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The group, who hold vigils fortnightly between 11 am and 12pm, every other Saturday on the pavement alongside St Mary's Church, are stressing that the UK Government need to act.
The group are also asking Powys County Council to divest its pension funds from firms complicit with supporting Israeli defence.
Speaking to The Brecon and Radnor Express, a spokesperson said: “We are into our second year of biweekly vigils outside St Marys Church Brecon. We rarely receive negative responses from members of the public. In fact as time goes on it is clear that public support for an end to Israeli occupation, death and destruction is strengthening.
“Our placards and leaflets to Stop Arming Israel are overwhelmingly endorsed. Last week we were joined by a serving member of the local clergy. We recently had a meeting with David Chadwick MP and asked for his support. He outlined the numerous attempts his party had made to raise questions pertaining to Gaza/Palestine in Parliament only to be strangled by procedures.
“Our Brecon Support Group will be organising another public fund-raising event in October.”
On Friday 25th July, at 11am, in solidarity with millions of people from throughout the UK and around the world, concerned local residents also gathered at The War Memorial, with empty saucepans, to draw attention to the deliberate famine being inflicted on the already besieged people of Gaza.
