TWO days of public hearings over proposed changes to Parliament constituency boundaries in Wales are to be held in Llandrindod Wells.

The Boundary Commission for Wales has put forward proposals for new Parliamentary boundaries, including merging Brecon and Radnorshire with part of Montgomeryshire to make a South Powys seat.

Under the proposals the number of Parliamentary constituencies in Wales will reduce from 40 to 30 and have been brought forward after the UK coalition government passed legislation to ensure all seats have an electorate of between 72,810 and 80,473 voters. The proposals do not affect Welsh Assembly constituencies.

The public hearings in the Pavilion, Llandrindod Wells are to be held from 10am to 8pm on Tuesday, March 20 and from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday, March 21.

They will be the last of five rounds of hearings held across Wales during February and March. Public events have already taken place in Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham and Caernarfon as part of 12 week consultation.

Llandrindod is one of two locations where special 30 to 45 minute slots have been reserved on Tuesday, March 20 for the three main political parties and the Welsh Liberal Democrats to make presentations.

The Commission's final proposals will be submitted to Parliament by October 2013.
