The Bracken Trust Singers have completed a busy schedule of midsummer performances across Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader, raising both spirits and funds.

The choir’s run of five engagements began with a fundraising concert at the Metropole Hotel on Saturday, June 5. While attendance was lower than hoped, the singers delivered a great performance for those who came, in support of the Bracken Trust.

Later that month, on Friday, June 21, the group took part in Llandrindod’s contribution to the national “Make Music Day”. Performing at the town’s bandstand, the singers entertained a seated audience and passers-by, including the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Steve Deeks-D’Silva and his wife. In a light-hearted moment, a wedding party from the Metropole wandered into the park during the performance, prompting the group to strike up a timely rendition of “Love and Marriage” as the bride and groom posed for photos nearby.

The programme continued with an afternoon visit to the Spa Nursing Home on Tuesday, June 24. Braving the midsummer heat, members of the group entertained residents with a selection of familiar favourites. Many sang along and expressed their appreciation during a relaxed tea and cake reception following the concert.

Three days later, the singers returned to the Bracken Trust’s headquarters on Cefnllys Lane to perform at its annual summer fete. Taking place under blue skies on Friday, June 27, the event featured stalls, lawn games and other local performers - read more on this on Page 13.

The final engagement of the run took the choir to Rhayader on Tuesday, July 1, for a postponed VE Day concert at Crosfield House.

After the concert, leader Vera Buckler thanked members for their dedication and praised their performance. She found it heartwarming to see residents join in and appreciated those who chatted with them.
