BRECON Rugby Club and an army of fans have arrived in Cardiff for the team’s Principality Stadium final against Bonymaen.
Brecon, coached by former Wales international Andy Powell, and the Swansea side go head to head in the final of the WRU Plate this afternoon at 3.15pm.
The Brecon squad has been getting ready for their big game by taking in the first of the three finals being played today, the Bowl between Abergavenny and Oakdale.
Brecon’s squad have taken their seats in the stadium to watch the Abergavenny side which features four former Brecon RFC players.
Brecon coach Powell said otherwise the team are trying to keep as close to their normal routine as possible.
"We’re just trying to stay relaxed and not get overawed by it, it’s a great occasion and its just keeping the boys calm and do everything as we would for a normal home game.
"About an hour and a quarter before the game we’ll start to think more about it, but we’re just taking it easy and it should be a good game."
The team has been followed to Cardiff by five coach loads of supporters, and others who’ve travelled independently, and many decked out in replicas of the specially commissioned predominently white kit the team will wear in today’s game.
Such has been the demand for the shirts among Brecon supporters that the manufacturers worked throughout the week to meet orders that were only delivered at the 11th hour.
The bottom tier of the main grandstand appeared almost full with excited supporters from Gwent sides Abergavenny and Oakdale and Powell praised the support for all the teams competing today with Cardiff RFC and Merthyr also set to clash in the Cup Final to end the day.
Powell said: "I think all the sides have got a lot of support and it’s what rugby is all about. It’s a great opportunity for small clubs to play at the stadium. It’s a fantastic day and it should be a great occasion."
