ON September 30 Brecon Singers had the honour of hosting a Come and Sing Day at Theatr Brycheiniog featuring the internationally renowned composer John Rutter.

More than 270 singers from different parts of the UK had bought prior tickets for this event which lasted all day and included lyrical pieces composed by John Rutter himself as well as perennial favourites such as Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, Amazing Grace and Vivaldi’s Gloria.

It was a particular pleasure for Brecon Singers to share in music making with John Rutter as the choir has performed many of his works and particularly admire his ability to move his audience with his beautiful harmonies and sympathetic lyrics. He did not disappoint on the day, giving tips on technique and dynamic variation, sharing anecdotes and encouraging the singers with great sensitivity and warmth.

John Rutter was accompanied on the day by accomplished pianist Colin Hunt who delighted all present with his energetic and skilful playing.

This is the first event of this kind that Brecon Singers has hosted and reflects the growing confidence of the choir under it’s talented musical director Robert Evans. Rehearsals take place Wednesdays 7.30 – 9.30 pm in Neuadd Goffa Christ College and new singers are always welcome.

Brecon Singers eagerly anticipate their next concert, Brahms Requiem in Brecon Cathedral on November 11 at 7.30pm. This promises to be a wonderful evening of music making with talented soloists baritone Nicholas Morton and soprano Emilia Morton who happen to be brother and sister-in-law.

Members of the Brecon community may soon spot choir members selling tickets in the town for Brecon Singers Autumn Raffle. Don’t miss the opportunity to win two tickets for Sunset Boulevard at the Cardiff Millennium Theatre.
