A BRECON woman will be attempting to scale three summits this weekend in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for two charities.
Zoe Mathias, 41, a branch manager with the Leeds Building Society, will be covering 26 miles in 12 hours on foot to raise cash for Mind UK and Diabetes UK on Saturday (September 9).
She said: “It’s basically a marathon, except its walking and involves mountains. I’ve raised £700 so far. There are about 100 of us from Leeds Building Society doing it, although it’s mostly from head office rather than local. We’ve raised £1,970 so far of our £10,000 target.”The peaks, which are all based in the Yorkshire Dales, include a 694 metres high fell called Pen-y-Ghent, the second highest mountain in the Dales called Ingleborough which stands at 723m, and the highest mountain in the Dales called Whernside which stands at 736m. Zoe has a model of the peaks which she uses as a fundraising pot in the LBS Brecon Branch made by her friend Lynn Woodward, which includes details such as trees, rivers and waterfalls. Zoe said her customers love it and some schools in Powys have even asked if they can give it a home afterwards. You can donate to Zoe here
