A PLAN to redevelop Brecon's museum and combine it with a new library has struck a £2.5 million National Lottery jackpot.
The Heritage Lottery Fund confirmed it will put a £2,497,100 grant towards the £8.4 million Powys Council scheme to restore the grade II listed Brecknock Museum and expand the Captain's Walk site by developing a cultural and community hub, including a new library adjacent to it.
The revamped museum and new facilities could be open by 2016.
Brecon Mayor, Councillor Matthew Dorrance has hailed the award as 'exciting' for the town.
The council has already begun some restoration work, including repairing the roof of the museum, which closed to the public in October 2011.
