Llanfaes Community Primary School was forced to close today after its sewage system failed.

The school in Llanfaes, Brecon, "reluctantly closed" this morning asking parents to collect their children just before 11am as the utility failure posed a health and safety risk.

A parent shared the message from the school on the "Brecon and surrounding areas community group" on Facebook.

The message said that they had closed the school "immediately" and "please could all children be collected as soon as possible."

Llanfaes C. P. School also apologised for the inconvenience and said it will keep all parents updated on the situation.

Headteacher Karen Lawrence said: "The new school has always had some problems with the pipes, on this occasion both of the pumps in the system failed.

"We closed very reluctantly - very, very reluctantly because of health and safety. We can’t have a risk like that and have 200/300 plus children and teachers in or the kitchen open."

The school re-opened today - Thursday, April 12 - and the school has returned to normal.
