Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed mixed feelings over the announcement that Brecon is to become a hub for the 'TrawsCambria' bus network. The new services are expected to be running to and from Llandrindod Wells and Newtown, Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff, Abergavenny and Llandovery by early January 2006. The 'TrawsCambria' is an existing and emerging network of longer distance bus services in Wales, including the X40 (Aberystwyth-Cardiff), X32 (Aberystwyth-Bangor), X94 (Wrexham-Barmouth) and X50 (Aberystwyth-Cardigan). Timetables are available from the Traveline website http://www.traveline-cymru.org.uk">www.traveline-cymru.org.uk or by calling 0870 608 2 608). Ms Williams said: "I am delighted that bus services are to be extended; it is an important way of ensuring that people in this constituency are not so cut off from the rest of Wales, and will hopefully encourage more visitors to the area. "However, Brecon was not designed to be a transport hub, and if these services are going to run in an effective and safe manner, to the benefit of the local people, this must be taken into account. Brecon will need a proper bus terminus to accommodate these extra services; the current bus stops will not be able to cope."
