HAVING to stay home from school and away from their friends is proving difficult for many children but for one Llangynidr family it’s providing a chance to get in touch with residents of another generation.

Eight year old Cairin Vaughan took the opportuninty of having some extra time of his hands, to pen a letter to residents of the village’s Oakland’s Care Home, asking how they were coping with the restrictions of the Coronavirus lockdown and sugesting some novel ways of passing the time.

“Maybe you can do some games like me and my brother or go on the trampoline or play hide and seek,” suggested Cairin, who added he and his brother were specially lucky to be able to enjoy a walk around the farm where their ‘Nanny Moo’ lives.

A short time after his sending off his letter Cairin and brother Cellan, who attends Crickhowell High School, received a hand delivered package from delight Oakland’s residents which included a letter of thanks, a DVD and two Easter eggs.

“I think this is lovely news and shows how the very old are communicating with the very young at this very difficult time,” said Mum Heather Vaughan.

The letter to Cairin, written on behalf of Oakland’s residents by member of staff Sandie, said that they had all loved reading his stories of family life at the Vaughan home, saying that his letter had put a huge smile on their faces.

“They asked me to tell you they are allowed out in the garden and are often playing board games like snakes and ladders. They also like throwing games like chuck the bean bag and skittles,” wrote Sandie.

“We think your story is beautiful and if you want to practice some more we are very happy for you to send them here,” she added.
