A NOISE complaint about a 140 year old landmark clock won't silence the residents of a Radnorshire town, say campaigners.

Powys County Council is investigating a single complaint the regular chimes of Knighton's iconic town clock constitute a 'noise nuisance'.

Author Lane Ashfeldt who runs the Offa Dyke guest house which overlooks the clock tower has complained - but was unavailable when The Brecon & Radnor Express tried to contact her.

Residents have sprang to the defence of the clock, which has chimed every 15 minutes for over 140 years and a Facebook group 'Save the Clock Chimes' has 600 members.

Wylcwm Street resident Lorna Cross admitted to being angry about the complaint: "It's ridiculous and makes me very angry. I live right next to the clock tower but I don't notice the sound."
